Mr. Alton Helton Swint suddenly transitioned from this earth on Sunday, September 29, 2019. Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 4, 2019 at 11 a.m. at Tennille Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Jerry Walden officiating. Interment will be in the Georgia Veteran's Memorial Cemetery in Milledgeville, Georgia.
He was born on September 17, 1945 in Sandersville, Georgia to the parents of the late Bradford Swint and the late Mrs. Annie Bell Swint in Washington County, Sandersville, Georgia.
At an early age, he joined Swint Spring Baptist Church in Tennille, Georgia. He later joined the Tennille Grove Baptist Church where he became a deacon and served until his death.
Alton attended and graduated from T.J. Elder High School in 1964. He enrolled in Fort Valley State College but later pursued a career in the US Army in 1968, Fort Jackson, South Carolina. During this time, he married the love of his life, Joan Ellen Parker on September 26, 1970. Alton was assigned to and stationed in Killeen, Texas where he later received orders to leave for Hawaii. Alton retired from the US Army where he served 24 years. After retirement, he received employment with the Department of Corrections where he served 10 years.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Mary Swint, Dessie Jones, Fannie Manning, Clara Swint and Ella Pearl Curtis; also preceded in death by his brothers, Johnnie Swint, Clinton Swint, and Lun Swint.
Alton loved gardening, flowers and being his wife's Sous chef.
Alton leaves to cherish his memories his wife of 49 years, Joan Swint; sister, Nina (Eddie) Dudley; brothers, Jessie (Sally) Swint and Richard Swint; sisters-in-law, Mildred Swint, Betty P (Clarence) Moore and Margaret (Horace) Kendrick; Asia Glover who was raised like a daughter, several nieces, nephews, other relatives; devoted friends, Rebecca Williams, Kelly Brooks, Sr. and Emma Martin
