On Monday, June 24, 2019, God in His infinite wisdom dispatched his angels calling Reverend Otis Lamar Hilson, Jr. home after living an immensely blessed life of 64 years in Concord, North Carolina. Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 1, 2019 at 12 noon at Bethesda Christian Church in Tennille, Georgia with interment in the church cemetery. Rev. Arthur Gordon, pastor of Jordan Stream Baptist Church, will deliver the eulogy.
The Reverend Otis Lamar Hilson, Jr. was born to the late Otis Lamar Hilson, Sr. and the late Earnestine Sparks Hilson on May 28, 1955 in Tennille, GA. Rev. Hilson was the oldest son of nine children. Reverend Hilson was joined in Holy Matrimony to the late Sister Veronica Gale Whipple Hilson on November 19, 1984. To their union, two daughters were born.
Reverend Hilson began his education at D.D. Crawford Primary School and graduated from the first segregated class of the Washington County Class of 1973. Reverend Hilson joined the Bethesda Christian Church at the age of eight, where he later began his ministry at the age of 34. He pastored New Evergreen of Valdosta, GA, and later resigned to become the full time Pastor of the Bethesda Christian Church for 29 years.
Reverend Hilson joined Elijah Lodge #194 of Harrison, GA in the year 1992. He held the titles of Worshipful Master Lodge #194, Past Master Lodge #194. He was a member of Ideal Chapter #101 where he served as Past Patron. He was Past District Patron of Louisville Masonic District #22 and presently was the District Associate Patron. He was also a member of Wadley Chapter HRAM #115 of Wadley, GA where he served as Past High Priest; member of the Swainsboro Consistory #317of Swainsboro, GA where he served as Past Commander in Chief.
Reverend Hilson was a dedicated employee of Imerys, where he retired as a Lab Technician of 45 years, this past May of 2019. Throughout his astounding endeavors, Reverend Hilson kept his work with the Lord primary. Otis remained active in several community and civic organizations. Reverend Hilson was proceeded in death by his lovely and devoted wife, Sister Veronica” Gale” Whipple Hilson; brother, Anthony Hilson, and sister Valerie Hilson.
Reverend Hilson leaves behind precious, cherished memories with his two devoted daughters, Earnestine Hilson (Pherleskia Rainey) of Savannah, GA, and Megan Hilson, of Tennille, GA. Three adored grandchildren, Eryn Hilson, Meciah Hilson, and Ali Rainey. Three brothers, Melvin (Barbra) Hilson; Casey (Mary)Hilson; Roney (Tynie)Hilson. Three sisters, Marilyn Jean Hilson of Covington, GA; Ella Mary Mathis, of Tennille, GA; and Karen Spivey of Sandersville, GA. A cherished and beloved aunt, Christine Hightower ; a devoted and beloved uncle, William Hilson. A host of devoted friends, co-workers, ministers, and relatives.
