Mrs. Shirley Ann Mitchell
Mrs. Shirley Ann Mitchell ascended to her heavenly home on Friday, June 1, 2018 at the University Hospital in Augusta, Georgia. Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 8, 2018 at 12 Noon at Union Hill Baptist Church with interment in the Sandersville City Cemetery.
Shirley Ann James Mitchell was born to the union of the late Doris Prosser James and Robert James. She was educated in T. J. Elder School System. Shirley was known for gifts of being a talented seamstress, a notable cook and had a silvery voice for singing in which she utilized those gifts on her job and to help others. After working many years, working in the factory sewing, Shirley chose to go back to school and received an Associate’s Degree from Swainsboro Technical College.
Shirley surrendered her life to Christ and was baptized at Springfield Baptist Church in Sandersville, Georgia. Throughout her Christian life, she served faithfully singing in choirs and served in many ministries including the culinary ministries, food pantry, missionary society, Pastor’s aide, Sunday School teacher, Girl Scout Leader, Church Secretary and many others. After moving back to Sandersville, she chose to unite with the Union Hill Baptist Church where she served faithfully until her extended illness.
Shirley leaves to celebrate her memory four children - Mrs. Saketha (Dr. Tyrone) Martin of Shelby Township, MI, Alvin (Chaquita) James of Sandersville, GA, Mrs. Stephania (Vincent) Curtis of Augusta, GA and Andrew (Quanetta) of Jacksonville, FL; one sister - Gwendolyn (Tony) Bryant of Sandersville, GA; four brothers - Earl James of Sparta, GA, George (Helen) James of Tennille, GA, Melvin (Sandra Faye) James of Tennille, GA, and Stevie (Cynthia) Williams of Milledgeville, GA; Eleven grandchildren - Alvin James, Jr., Javaris White, Angelia Martin, Jeremiah White, Jacob James, Jadyn Martin, Jalexis Biggans, Jaxson James, Zaia James, Zachary James, and Jyana James; One great-grandchild - Gabriel Grantham; Five nieces-Fernanda Norman, Yolanda Coar, Nicole Cooper, Melrita Peacock and Keanya Peacock; Four nephews- Nicholas Johnson, Sr., George James, Jr., Earl James, Jr., and Stevie Williams, Jr; One aunt - Martha Harris of Philadelphia, PA and a host of other relatives and friends including special friends Min. Gennie Harris, Maggie Bell, Kalenza Walters, Barbara Wheeler, Ethel Cheeley, Angeline Curtis and A.B. Mitchell.
