Mr. Willie Burns
On Sunday, June 25, 2017, Mr. Burns silently slept away at Pruitt Health of Toomsboro in Toomsboro, Georgia. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 6, 2017 at St. Paul AME Church in Sandersville, Georgia at 11 o'clock with Rev. Samuel A. Cooper officiating. Interment will be at Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Milledgeville, Georgia at 2:30 p.m.
Mr. Willie Burns was born on October 8, 1933 in Sandersville, Georgia to the parentage of Robert Burns and Dorious (Haynes) Burns.
He attended T.J. Elder Elementary and graduated from T.J. Elder High School. He met and married Rose Marie (Glover) Burns. He served in the United States Air Force and retired after 26 years of service. His last Air Force Tour of Duty was the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia. After he retired, he worked for the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, D.C. He worked part-time at L.M. Pierce Funeral Home in Sandersville, Georgia.
He was an active member of St. Paul AME Church where he held many positions including being a Steward and church treasurer. Mr. Burns is well known in his community for his involvement with voter registration. He was a member of St. Andrew Lodge #32 where he served as Past Master and Past Patron of Shiloh #8 Order of Eastern Stars. He also served as Past Commander in Chief of Swainsboro Consistory #317 in Summertown, Georgia.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 60+ years, Rose M. Burns; one son, Kester (Helen) Burns; one granddaughter, Tieki Q. Burns; nephews: Bobby Burns, Karlton Burns; nieces: Lisa Bullock; brother-in-law, Colonel Carl V. (Lydia) Glover (Ret.); cousins: Ruby Reeves, Betty Johnson, Regina Johnson, Lee Johnson, Jerry Johnson, Joe Howard and Danny Howard; other relatives and friends.
