We bow in humble submission to the will of our Almighty Lord and Saviour in His Divine Providence in calling from labor to rest our loved one, Willie James Burnett, on Sunday, August 21, 2016, at his residence.
Willie James was born on March 9, 1949, in Tennille, GA to the late A.J. Norris and the late Lestell Burnett. He attended public schools of Washington County, Georgia and was employed by Engelhard Corporation/BASF for 45 years. At an early age he professed his faith in Jesus Christ and united with Union Hill Baptist Church, Tennille, GA.
On February 22, 1971, he was united in holy matrimony to Betty M. Jones. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Chelsea Denise Burnett; a brother, Charles Burnett and a brother-in-law, Lamar Jones, Sr.
Willie James was well known and a pillar in the community on Highway 68 South in Tennille. He was a dedicated husband, father, brother, nephew, grandfather and friend. Because of his generous spirit, compassion and pleasant personality, he was loved by many. He will be greatly missed.
Willie James was blessed with many talents and was versatile in many different areas. He was skilled in repairing automobiles and performing home repairs. He was always quick to use his skills to help others on projects in the community. Willie James was the ultimate Pit Master. His family and friends throughout the county enjoyed his delicious pit cooked ribs and chicken.
He leaves a legacy of love, sharing and treasured memories: his devoted wife of 45 years, Betty M. Burnett, Tennille, GA; his daughter, Terrineya Spann (Ronnie), Dublin, GA; his son, Michael Burnett, Tennille, GA; five sisters, Linda Whitaker (Steve), Dessie Underwood (Ulyssee), Sandra Duty (Phillip), Versie Darrisaw all of Tennille, GA and Shirley Robinson (Astell) of Sandersville, GA; his aunt, Lizzie Mae Purvey (Gus) of Tennille, GA; four grandsons, Christopher Burnett, Dublin, GA, Jeffrey Burnett, Jackson Burnett and Jayden Burnett, Tennille, GA; mother-in-law, Ola Bell Wiggins, Tennille, GA; two sisters-in-law, Ola Wiggins (Roosevelt), Raleigh, NC, Betty H. Jones, Cincinnati, Ohio; four brothers-in-law, Robert J. Jones (Shirley), Midlothian, VA, Bishop Dr. Sylvester Jones (Joyce), Rockledge, FL, Curtis Tillman (Mary Ann), Sandersville, GA, Tommy Wiggins (Rochelle), Toomsboro, GA; several special friends, William Pierce, Roger Pierce, Phillip Duty, Steve Whitaker, James Davis, David Chapman, James Cason; special first cousins, Bernice Burnett-Lawrence and Louise Whitaker, a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
