Sister Vanilla Bell Sparks, 88, departed this life on Monday, June 13, 2016 at Old Capitol Nursing Home in Louisville, Georgia. Funeral services were held on Sunday, June 19, 2016 at Middle Hill Missionary Baptist Church with interment in the church's cemetery.
She was born in Washington County near Warthen, Georgia on June 1, 1928 to Mattie Bell Sparks. She was raised by her grandparents, George Sparks and Hattie “Nan” Sparks.
Sister Sparks was preceded in death by her Aunt Virginia, three other aunts and four uncles. Sister Sparks was affectionately nick-named “Jeek” by her family and friends.
Sister Sparks joined Middle Hill Missionary Baptist Church at an early age and attended the church’s school. As an adult, she served as an Usher for over 50 years. Sister Sparks served as Secretary of Middle Hill and was active in various auxiliaries.
Sister Sparks worked in home health care and tirelessly care for many citizens of Washington County by providing transportation and assisting in any way possible to meet the needs of neighbors. She was an active member of SCLC and devoted to preparing and serving meals to those who were less fortunate.
Sister Sparks leaves one son to cherish her memory: Willie Sparks of Monroe, GA; four grandchildren: Shawonda Sparks of San Jose, CA; King Dallas of Berkley, CA; Elizabeth Yorker of Warthen, GA and Cierra Sparks of Covington, GA; three great grandchildren and one great-great grandson, other family members and friends.
