On Wednesday, January 27, 2016, with his sister and Church family by his side, Gamiel Warren “Moochie” Stephens entered into eternal rest.

Gamiel was born March 31, 1962 in Sandersville, Georgia. He was the son of the late Tommie Lee Bellmon and the late Mattie Stephens. He was the grandson of Grady and Mary “Dinah” Stephens, who raised him as their son. He attended the public school system in Sandersville, where he graduated with the class of 1980.

Moochie, as he was affectionately known, lived most of his life in Sandersville before relocating to Somerset, New Jersey in April of 2013 to be with his grandchildren. He had one employer, Thiele Kaolin Company, where he worked for more than 30 years before an illness would force him into disability.

He accepted Christ as his personal Lord and Savior at an early age. He was a member of Marshall Grove Baptist Church. His love for Christ and his church encouraged him to take on many projects at the church. He was instrumental in the building of the Fellowship Hall and the entire back portion of the church, soliciting the help of the Carpenter’s For Christ. In the sanctuary, he was responsible for the reconstruction of the choir stand, and the building of the sound room. Because of his kindness and generosity, most projects were out of pocket expenses. Moochie worked in the church tirelessly, he could be found at Marshall Grove many days and late nights working on the building, the grounds and/or in the church cemetery.

Moochie was loved by everyone he met, often being called a “Gentle Giant” and a “Teddy Bear”, never one for causing trouble, always wanting to be the peacemaker. Very few things in life mattered to him, but that which did, he expressed to everyone he knew. Moochie loved everyone but his heart belonged to his son, his grandbabies, his sister and the church.

He was predeceased by his beloved mother, father, grandparents and his niece Dynia.

Gamiel leaves to cherish his memory: his son, Christopher (Crystal); seven grandchildren, Anthony, Darius, Christopher Jr., Rodriquez, Ricardo, Dynia and Aleah all of Somerset, New Jersey; two sisters Danette Martin of Somerset, New Jersey; Shorne Robinson of Milledgeville, Georgia; one brother in “love” Anthony Martin of Somerset, New Jersey; one aunt Sara Howell of Brooklyn, New York; three uncles Willie Frank Bellmon of Brooklyn, New York, Leroy Pierce, and Leo Flournoy Jr. of Sandersville, Georgia; many nieces given to him by the Lord, including Rena Caines of Somerset, New Jersey, several devoted cousins and friends including Bill (Dot) Stephens, Sue Pierce, Katherine Walden, Maurice Walden, Darrell Brookins, Kelvin Hall, and Anna Wilcher; like a mother Delia Davis; and a host of cousins, family and friends.

Mr. Gamiel "Moochie" Stephens transitioned from labor to reward on Wednesday, January 27, 2016 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunwick, New Jersey. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 6, 2016 at Marshall Grove Baptist Church on Highway 68 North in Tennille, Georgia at 2 p.m. with interment in the church cemetery. Dr. Rev. Maurice Walden will officiate.
