Wyman Gilmore Obituary

Mr. Wyman Gilmore passed away on Thursday, December 29, 2022 at the VA Medical Center in Augusta, Georgia.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 6, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at Smith Grove Baptist Church with Pastor Rose Mackey officiating.  Interment will be held in the church cemetery.

Wyman was born September 8, 1941 to the parentage of the late Mr. Ennis Gilmore and Mrs. Viola Braddy Gilmore.

And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are called according to his purpose. What a purpose Wyman Gilmore was called to do. At the age of 22, full of life with no worries or concerns, he was drafted into the United States Armed Forces in 1964.  Wyman knew his purpose was to rise above all limits and inspire others to do the same. He was a 61C20 Marine Engineer in the United States Army. Wyman received several decorations, medals, badges, commendation, citations, ribbons, and awards. He was most proud of the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medical, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and the Marksman Badge (M-14 Rifle). With faith in God and a tenacity to make things happen, Wyman knew that God would keep him safe and conceal him from his enemies.

On January 13, 1970 Wyman left the Armed Forces and began to work on his passion for helping and serving others.

In 1980, Wyman met the apple of his eye, Dorothy Jones, and the two were united in holy matrimony on January 4, 1988.  In his later years, Wyman and his brother started their own construction company, Gilmore’s Construction Company. Wyman and his siblings were well known for their work and their commitment to making their customers happy.

He was preceded in death by a son, Mr. Tracy James; his sister: Audrey Daniel, three brothers Mr. Arnold Gilmore, Mr. Ennis Gilmore, Jr., and Mr. Tyree Gilmore.

Mr. Gilmore leaves to cherish his memories, his devoted loving wife Mrs. Dorothy Jones Gilmore, two sons:  Mr. Antonio (Marilyn) Jones of Senoia, Georgia, Mr. Daren James of Conyers, Georgia; one brother Mr. James Gilmore of Dublin, Georgia; five sisters-in-law: Mrs. Dorothy Gilmore of Wrightsville, Georgia, Mrs. Bernice Cotton of Macon, Georgia, Mrs. Brenda Jones of Atlanta, Georgia, Ms. Bobbie Jones, Ms. Teresa Turner, Sandersville, Georgia, Mrs. Betty Russell, Pompano Beach, Florida; five brothers-in-law: Mr. Earnest Jones, Mr. Sylvester (Betty) Brown, Sandersville, Georgia, Mr. Thomas Jenkins, Newark, New Jersey, Mr. Thomas Flower, Ft.
