Rev. Robert Owens, Sr.

Rev. Robert Owens, Sr. entered eternal rest on Monday morning, September 27, 2021, at Washington County Regional Center, Sandersville, Georgia.  Graveside service will be held on Saturday, October 2, 2021 at 11 a.m. at Pine Grove AME Church, 588 Donovan Road,  Wrightsville, GA.  Interment will be in the church cemetery.  

He was born July 29, 1935 in Donovan, Georgia to parentage of Mrs. Julia Mae Owens and Mr. William Tarver, Sr.    At an early age he joined Scott Chapel Baptist Church in Pringle, Georgia.

Later on in life, Rev. Robert Owens, Sr. begin ministering to the world in the late 70’s.  Rev. Owens pastored many churches in different counties.  At the time of his death, he was the pastor of Bold Spring Baptist Church (42 yeas) in Sandersville, Georgia and Lane Grove Baptist Church (29 years) in Millen, Georgia;   Also pastor of Green Grove Baptist Church of Sandersville Georgia for over 32 years and New Baptist Church of Sandersville, Georgia for over 10 years.   Rev. Owens was the present Moderator of the Hancock Missionary Baptist Association, Inc. of Sparta, Georgia for over 7 years and he was the Vice Moderator for 20 years. 

Rev. Robert Owens, Sr. was preceded in death by his mother Mrs. Julia Mae Owens, stepfather Mr. George Owens, father Mr. William Tarver, Sr., brother Mr. William Tarver, Jr.  He was married to the former Doretha Sampson Owens for 39 years. 

Rev. Robert Owens leaves to cherish his memories his children: Bobby Owens of Weeki Wachee, Florida, Robert (Wykeshia)  Owens, Jr. of Tennille, Georgia; James (Joanne) Owens of Sandersville, Georgia, Lorianne (Marion) Swint of Tennille, Georgia, Johnny (Sadiah) Owens of Warner Robins, Georgia, Quinton Owens of Byron, Georgia, Michael (Shirley) Owens of Savannah, Georgia, Sheryl Owen of Tennille, Georgia, Ellen Owens of Tennille, Georgia, Eric (Michelle) Owens of Waco, Texas; one devoted brother,  Rev. Roger Owens of Brunswick, Georgia; 34 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews and cousins and a friend Elizabeth Stephen and Darryl Stephens.
