August 15, 1929 - November 18, 2020 God saw you getting weary. He did what he thought best. Too wise to make a mistake and too just to do any wrong, Gladys Ray Robinson returned to the Creator, the Finisher of our Fate on the morning of Wednesday, November 18, 2020 at 5:15 am at her residence. Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 23,2020 at 12 noon on the lawn of St. Paul AME Church in Sandersville, Georgia with interment in the Rest Haven Cemetery. Rev. Rose Johnson Mackey will officiate. Gladys Ray Robinson was born on August 15, 1929 in Sandersville, Georgia to the parentage of Mrs. Hattie Ray and Mr. Early David Ray Sr. She was the eldest of three children. Known as "Lil" to some, she attended the "Elder" schools in Washington County graduating from Thomas Jefferson High School. She attended what was known as Albany State College, currently Albany State University, where she obtained a Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education. During her college days she was an exceptional scholar and became a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated. After completing her degree, she returned back to Sandersville, Georgia where she served as an educator for many years. She also worked as an educator in Milledgeville, Davisboro, Clarksville, and Tennille until she retired from the Washington County Board of Education, serving a total of 40 years. At an early age, Gladys joined St. Paul AME Church where she was very active until her health declined and faithful to the church she loved so dearly. Ms. Robinson is preceded in death by her parents Mr. and Mrs. Early David Ray, Sr. and two brothers, Mr. Earl David Ray, Jr and Mr. Mose Ray. Ms. Robinson leaves in cherish her memories two daughters: Gretchen (Dr. Derrick Tabor) Robinson of Montgomery Village, Maryland and Dr. Lynne (Kirvin) Flournoy of Milledgeville, Georgia; two grandsons: Jordan Tabor (Jaryn Finch) of Boston, Massachusetts and Dr. Gregory Tabor (Dr. Lin Chien Huang) of Harverton, Pennsylvania; one great-granddaughter Elsie Yuhan Oceania Tabor of Havertown, Pennsylvania; sister-in-law Rollena Ray of Sandersville, Georgia; devoted nieces: Pier (Jermone) Deveaux of Augusta, Georgia, Sharon Wilson of Detroit, Michigan and Jan Ray of Sandersville, Georgia; devoted nephews: David (Linda) Ray of Sandersville, Georgia and Gary Ray, and Sherman (Jill) Ray; close cousins: Coleman Cooper Jr. and Gloria Gregory both of Detroit, Michigan. Ms. Robinson fondly adopted the Cuyler family, notably caregivers Ms. Delois Cuyler and Ms. Sandra Cuyler, as her daughters and Mr. Surodney Cannida as a grandson. She also adopted Ms. Regina Gaynor as a daughter.
