Mr. Joel Merrell Obituary

On Wednesday, July 8, 2015, at his residence, within his own infinite wisdom, Jesus saw fit to remove Mr. Joel “Joe” Merrell from the walks of this life. Funeral services were held on Monday, July 13, 2015 at Greater New Hope Baptist at 2 p.m. with Rev. Jimmy Ellis Cordy, Sr. officiating.  Interment was in the Sandersville City Cemetery.  

 

He, on October 1, 1978, was born to the parentage of Mr. Joe “Bubba’ McKnight and Ms. Annette Merrell.  Affectionally known as “Joe” he was a 1997 graduate of Washington County High School in Sandersville, Georgia.   He was owner and operator of Merrell’s Mobile Washing based in Wrightsville, Georgia.  He was all about family and whenever called upon he was always there.  Joel was 36 years old. 

 

He was preceded in death by his parents Mr. Joe “Bubba” McKnight and Mrs. Annette Merrell Salvador as well as his stepfather Mr. Fritz Salvador; maternal grandfather Edward “Dweet” Merrell, Sr.; maternal great grandfather Deacon Obe Thomas, Sr.; maternal uncle  Edward Merrell, Jr; paternal grandparents Mr. Joe McKnight, Sr. and  Mrs. Mander Gamble McKnight and a brother-in-law 1SGT Gerald L. Thomas.

 

Joe leaves to cherish fond memories his wife of 13 years, Mrs. Sandra Thomas Merrell of Wrightsville, GA; maternal grandmother Mrs. Gennell Merrell of Tennille, GA; two daughters Miss Aleshya Balhouri of Miami, FL and Ms. Sandrika Wright,  two grandsons Master Gerderian Hall and Master Kadezmon Wright all of Wrightsville, GA; maternal great grandmother  

 

Mother Rosa Thomas of Tennille, GA; six sisters  Ms. Anquanek Merrell of Sparta, GA and Ms. Vera McKnight, Ms. Cynthia McKnight, Ms. Ronda McKnight, Ms. Kathy McKnight and Ms. Toya McKnight all of Rochester, NY; four brothers Mr. Raymond (Yoshia) Merrell of Pageland, SC, Mr. Timothy McKnight of Goulds, FL, Mr. Ray Anthony McKnight and Mr. Joseph McKnight of Rochester, NY; ten aunts and four uncles Mr. Ronnie (Tangela) Merrell, Mrs. Shanella (Calvin) Evans and Mrs. Janice Merrell all of Sandersville, GA, Mrs. Abigail (Cornelius) Merrell-Pinkston of Sparta, GA; Mr. Gary (Fredericka) Merrell of Miami, FL, Mr. Dwight McKnight, Mrs. Louise Evans and Mrs. Diane Jones all of Kingstree, SC; Mrs. Betty (Joe) Conyers of Trio, SC; Mr. TJ McKnight of Winston-Salem, NC; Mrs. Rosa Lee Hamilton and Mrs. Flora Rouse of Andrews, SC; Mrs. Alice (Sammy) Scott and Ms. Rudell McKnight of Rochester, NY; sister-in-law and brothers-in-law  Mrs. Judy (Antonio) Graddy and Mr. James Lee Hunter, Sr. both of Wrightsville, Georgia; Pastor Jimmy Ellis (Minister Elizabeth) Cordy, Sr., Mr. Willie Elbert (Jacqueline) Davis and Mr. Edward (Mary) Cordy all of Dublin, Georgia; Mr. Bobbie Lee (Leslie) Thomas Jr. of Columbia, SC; devoted cousin Mr. Stewart Merrell (Pokey) of Dublin, GA and a host of great aunts and uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
