Sgt. Charles Ellison, Sr. departed this life unexpectedly on Wednesday, December 27, 2023 in Washington County. He was 76 years old. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 4, 2024 at 11 a.m. at Faith Apostolic Church, 140 Knight Road, Tennille, Georgia. Interment will be in the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Milledgeville, Georgia.
He was born on December 9, 1947 to the parentage of Mr. Charleston Ellison and Mrs. Willie Mae Ellison in Hancock County.
Sgt. Ellison was known for his profound sensed of humor and telling the uncut truth about any topic. He wore many hats – he was a husband, father, friend, a proud Vietnam veteran, fisher, butcher, cook and disc jockey (DJ), to name a few. He was a selfless person and would help anyone in need. He had a passion for the outdoors and loved fishing. In addition to his love for fishing, he loved being a butcher.
Sgt. Charles Ellison was preceded in death by his parents, Charleston and Willie Mae Ellison; a brother, Eugene Ross and two sons, Michael Ellison and Charles Ellison, Jr.
Sgt. Ellison leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Ella Francis Ellison; daughters: Kim Ellison-Freeman (Thomas), Denise Simmons-Hales (John), Carlotta Ellison-Brown (Adolph) and Charlotta Ellison-Reynolds (Sylvester); one brother: David Ellison (Marie); two sisters: Amilene Davis and Wilhelmenia Gindraw (Huren); daughter-in-law: Joanne Hatcher-Ellison; sisters-in-law: Joann Poole, Bettye Mitchell (Charles), Martha Norris and Arletha Norris; twenty-five grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; devoted friends: Nathaniel Walker and Charlie Bostic; host of relatives and friends.
