Robert Kelsey

Mr. Robert Kelsey passed away on Thursday, October 2, 2025 at his residence in Sandersville, GA.  Funeral service will be held on Friday, October 10, 2025 at New Gardner Church of God in Christ in Oconee, Georgia with interment in the Cannon Quarters Cemetery in Toomsboro, Georgia.   He was born on May 25, 1948 in Toomsboro, Georgia to the late Mr. Henry & Mrs. Viola Kelsey. After high school, he joined the United States Air Force where he served from 1966 – 1981. He served as a deacon at Dixon Grove Church of God in Christ.

Robert lived a life marked by love, strength, and quiet grace. Raised in a close-net family, he carried the values of compassion, hard work, and humility throughout his life. He was devoted to serving God and his country.

He was proceeded in death by his parents, Henry Kelsey, Sr. and Viola Merrell Kelsey; brothers: Stewart Merrell, Sr., Henry Kelsey, Jr., and Stevie Kelsey; and sister-in-law: Barbara Merrell.

Robert leaves behind to cherish his memory a sister, Addie Green (Paul); sister-in-law, Gussie Kelsey; aunt: Jessie R. Davis; devoted nephews: Stewart A. Merrell, Darrell Fraley, Stewart W. Merrell, Jr.; devoted nieces: Shanona Merrell-Settles (Allen), Iralanette Cheely (Justin) and Branehia Merrell; devoted cousins: Sammie Merrell (Annie Lois), Stella Hill (James), Brenda Merrell Miller (James), Daisy Maze (JC), William Burden (Alfreda), ; host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and Calhoun Consolidated Class of 1966.

Outside of family and work, Robert lived fully and with intention. He had a passion for old gospel music, writing newsletters, and keeping everyone informed of what was going on in the family. Robert’s memory will live on in the stories we share, the lessons we carry forward and the love that continues to ripple through generations.
