Mr. Jamello (Jamell/Jay) Merrell entered eternal rest on Saturday, August 26, 2023, at his residence in Byron, Georgia. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 2, 2023 at 1 p.m. at the New Gardner Church of God in Christ in Oconee, Georgia with interment in New Gardner Church cemetery.
Jamell was born on August 7, 1972 at Baldwin County Hospital in Milledgeville, Georgia to the parentage of Clifford and Geraldine Merrell.
Jamell was educated in the public schools of Washington County, Georgia and was a member of the graduating class of 1991. Following graduation, Jamell continued his education at Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, Georgia. Jamell planted roots in Savannah, Georgia where he met and married the late Lakisha Warren.
Jamell’s passion was helping the youth. He was a devoted teacher for Savannah Chatham County School System and a faithful member of Kingdon Life Christian Fellowship where he served in the Youth Ministry. Jammel was a community advocate and a dedicated member of the Chatham County Democratic Committee.
Jamell was preceded in death by his wife, the late Lakisha Warren (2014) and his older brother, the late Derrick Merrell (2009).
Jamell leaves cherished memories with is parents Clifford and Geraldine Merrell; loving siblings: Rodney Merrell, Elise Merrell and Zavian Wallace (Warner Robins, Georgia); three nephews: Djhauri Merrell, Zavious Henderson and Enge Merrell; a cousin like a sister, Ankia Wallce (Milledgeville, Georgia); devoted uncle and aunts: Sammie and Annie Merrell (Tennille, Georgia) and Liddie Thompkins (Milledgeville, Georgia); three double cousins like sisters: Delinda Trawick (Harrison, Georgia) Udy Andrews (Tennille, Georgia) and Thelma Cunningham (Atlanta, Georgia); a step son: Kanye Harvey, two god sons: Uriah Andrews and Amil Foster, Jr.; a host of aunts, uncles, relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday, September 1, 2023, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Family is receiving visitors at their residence, 302 Arrie Drive, Byron, Georgia.
