Mr. Emanuel Kelsey, Jr. entered eternal rest on Saturday, December 26, 2015 in Topeka, Kansas. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 9, 2016 at Clara-Minnie Memorial Chapel of L.M. Pierce Funeral Home.
Mr. Emanuel Kelsey, Jr. was born June 9, 1963 to the late Emanuel Kelsey, Sr. and Marie Burnett Kelsey. Emanuel was reared in Miami, Florida in the city of Opa Locka, Florida. He attended Hialeah Miami Lakes (Class of 1982) where he was a star athlete playing point guard and running back for the Mighty Trojans.
After high school, he accepted a position with the City of Opa Locka as a water technician/treatment specialist. A position he held for 10 plus years.
In 2001, Emanuel relocated to Sandersville, Georgia. He attended Sandersville Technical Institute, receiving his honors on December 31, 2001. He accepted a position at Hancock State Prison as a Correctional Officer. He retired from Hancock State Prison after 10 plus years. He entered into semi-retirement to enjoy his most prize passion.
Emanuel was a student of the game of sports and knew talent when it stepped on the field.
Yes, he enjoyed the sports curriculum, but he loved his family!
He was preceded in death by one daughter, LaTrice Darby. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Leathur Kelsey and sister-in-law, Adell Kelsey. To the Florida family we love you!
Mr. Emanuel Kelsey, Jr. leaves to cherish his memory a devoted wife of 26 plus years, Vivian Kelsey; his loving mother Marie Burnett; three (3) sons: Felix Stuckey-Kelsey of Ohio, Taurence Minikw of Kansas and Emanuel Kelsey, III of Kansas; two (2) daughters: LaTonya Darby of Miami, and Lashonda Darby of Miami; six (6) grandchildren: Lamar Jones, Lamont Jones, Anthony Rosier,, Ji’Aire Smith, T.J. Minikw, and Lei Lani Kelsey; 2 sisters: Mary Ellen Thompson of Florida and Suzette Myers of Georgia; four (4) nieces: Valerie, Mary, Lorraine, and Makyia; four (4) nephews: Byron, Nigel, Malik and Troy; a host of devoted family members, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; devoted god brothers: Kenny Price, Robert Morton and Antwan Evans; god children: Lena Tombull and Johnny Gilmore (Pooh Bear).
