Deacon Roy Wilcher transitioned on Saturday, August 9, 2025 at Doctor's Hospital in Augusta, Georgia. Funeral service will be held on Friday, August 15, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at Buckeye Baptist Church in East Dublin with interment in the Westview Cemetery in Wrightsville, Georgia.  

Roy was born in Laurens County on December 4, 1949, to the late Sidney and Willie Kate Wilcher. .

He was preceded in death by three brothers: Willie, Carl, and Doris; three sisters: Lullene, Donnie, and Bretha; and two cousins raised as sisters: Lucile and Mildred.

Roy graduated from Dock Kemp High School and attended Albany State University, where he received a degree in Business Education, and Georgia Southern University, where he earned a degree in Administration and Supervision. He was an active member of the Sandersville-Tennille Optimist Club, serving as President and Secretary-Treasurer. He also held the position of President in the Albany State Dublin Area Alumni Association and was a member of the Johnson County Retired Educators.

Roy was a retired educator and principal from the Washington County School System. After retirement, he returned to the Washington County School System to train teachers to become administrators.

He began his Christian journey at an early age at Buckeye Baptist Church, where he served faithfully in many roles, including Deacon, Senior Choir Member, and a character member of the Male Voices. He also organized Vacation Bible School, taught the Immediate Sunday School Class, and served as the Church Clerk for many years. In 2024, he was appointed Church Administrator, orienting new members and deacons.

Roy attended the GMBC Baptist Convention and was a vital servant of the First Rehoboth Association, where he served as Layman President and Budget Chairperson.

Deacon Wilcher is survived by his wife, Atlean Wilcher; nieces, nephews, and godchildren; sisters-in-law: Diane (Ardell) Wright, Adell Wallace, and Louise Wallace; brothers-in-law: Johnny Wallace, Frank Wallace, and Lee Mack Pierce, Sr.; and other relatives, family, and friends.
