With profound love and deep sorrow, we honor the life of Mrs. Bertha Mae Dawson, a remarkable woman whose presence graced this world on March 1, 1941, in Washington County, Georgia.  She was born to the late Ms. Lillie Mae Hagans and Mr. George Brown, who instilled in her the values of faith, family and resilience.

Mrs. Dawson received her education at T.J. Elder High School in Sandersville, Georgia.  From an early age, she dedicated her life to Christ, becoming a faithful servant at Jordan Station AME Church where she worshipped with unwavering devotion.

She was blessed to share a loving union with her late husband, Mr. Leon Dawson, with whom she built a family rooted in love, strength, and perseverance.  A pillar of wisdom and grace, Mrs. Dawson’s nurturing spirit extended far beyond her own children, touching the hearts of all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her beloved sons, Mr. Burnice Clay Brown and Mr. Allen Brown; her brother, Mr. Robert Hickson, and her sisters, Ms. Claudia Hagans, Ms. Georgia Brown, Ms. Ida Bell Brown, Ms. Mattie K. Hickson, Ms. Elizabeth Johnson, and Ms. Cecile Youngblood.

She leaves to cherish her memory six devoted children:  Mrs. Mary Lena Harris (Bobby Harris) of Sandersville, GA; Ms. Connie Brown of Atlanta, GA; Mr. Willie Brown of Sandersville, GA; Mrs. Janet Merrell (Willie Merrill III) of Tennille, GA; Ms. Leomia Dawson (Deborah Bradford) of Duluth, GA and Mr. Tony Dawson of Conyers, GA.

She is also survived by her cherished sisters, Mrs. Retha Biggins (Mr. Robert Lee Biggins) and Ms. Jeanette Brown, along with four sisters-in-law and three brothers-in-law.  She shared an unbreakable bond of love and companionship with Mr. Michael Renfroe, her devoted partner of 30 years.

Her spirit lives on in 17 adored grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren, along with a vast family of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

Visitation will be on Friday in the Clara-Minnie Memorial Chapel of L.M. Pierce Funeral Home from 12 noon to 6 p.m.
