Mrs. Ollie Butts, 91, entered peaceful sleep of eternal rest on Thursday, November 19, 2015 at the University Hospital in Augusta, Georgia. Funeral services held on Friday, November 27, 2015 at St. James Christian Fellowship Church in Tennille, Georgia with Rev. Mack Jackson officiating. Interment in the Union Hill Baptist Church cemetery.
Mrs. Butts was born in Wrightsville, Georgia on September 21, 1924 to William Dave Wilson and Nellie Wilson. Mrs. Ollie met and married the late Eddie Butts, Sr. and from this union they were blessed with eight children. She was a dedicated loving wife and mother. She loved fishing and gardening, which brought great joy to her life.
Mrs. Ollie was preceded in death by Joyce G. Davis, Eleanor Butts and Genevieve Butts Elliot.
Mrs. Ollie leaves to cherish her memory, one son Eddie M. Butts, Jr. and four daughters: Susan B. Haynes, Linda (Daniel) Andrews, Althea Walker and Darlene Hannah; thirteen grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Mr. Isaac Haynes, Sr. entered into eternal rest on Monday December 14, 2015 at his residence surrounded by his family. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 19, 2015 at New Birth Christian Ministry in Tennille, Georgia ata 1 p.m. Interment will be in the Union Hill Baptist Church cemetery.
Mr. Haynes was born July 3, 1936 in Washington County, Georgia to the late Mr. Fred Haynes and Ms. Pauline Armstrong. He was reared in Washington County and attended Limestone School in Washington County, Georgia. He was a member of Springfield Baptist Church for many years and most recently joined New Birth Christian Ministry in Tennille, Georgia.
He was employed at Wilson Furniture Company and Lapp Insulation Company from which he retired in 1998. He was also a licensed barber. Mr. Haynes enjoyed picture framing, installing carpet and fishing.
He was preceded in death by one sister Mrs. Lillie Ruth Dawson.
Mr. Isaac Haynes, Sr. leaves to cherish his memory a devoted wife of 55 years. He was married to Miss Maudie Ree Coleman on July 16, 1960, to this union they added 4 children: Lillie Ruth McLaughlin (Jerome), Isaac Haynes, Jr. (Juanita), Michael L. Haynes (Elizabeth), and Christopher B. Haynes all of Sandersville and 7 grandchildren: 5 grandsons – Daries Smith, Brandon, Isaac III, McKale and Christopher Haynes; 2 granddaughters: Brittany and Tangela Haynes and 4 great-grandchildren; sister-in-laws Inez Askew (George), Joyce Castleberry all of Sandersville; Dorothy Stafford (Shawn) of Macon, and Willie Mae Wright, Geneva and Jewel Coleman all of Florida; brother-in-laws Ledell Castleberry (Charlene), Napoleon Castleberry (Ann); Ronnie Castleberry, Daniel Coleman; devoted cousins Lillie Mae Hall, Betty Bloodsaw, Dorothy Simmons, Shirley Rooney and two devoted friends Leon Minor and Jody Peeler. Mr. Emanuel Kelsey, Jr. entered eternal rest on Saturday, December 26, 2015 in Topeka, Kansas. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 9, 2016 at Clara-Minnie Memorial Chapel of L.M. Pierce Funeral Home.
Mr. Emanuel Kelsey, Jr. was born June 9, 1963 to the late Emanuel Kelsey, Sr. and Marie Burnett Kelsey. Emanuel was reared in Miami, Florida in the city of Opa Locka, Florida. He attended Hialeah Miami Lakes (Class of 1982) where he was a star athlete playing point guard and running back for the Mighty Trojans.
After high school, he accepted a position with the City of Opa Locka as a water technician/treatment specialist. A position he held for 10 plus years.
In 2001, Emanuel relocated to Sandersville, Georgia. He attended Sandersville Technical Institute, receiving his honors on December 31, 2001. He accepted a position at Hancock State Prison as a Correctional Officer. He retired from Hancock State Prison after 10 plus years. He entered into semi-retirement to enjoy his most prize passion.
Emanuel was a student of the game of sports and knew talent when it stepped on the field.
Yes, he enjoyed the sports curriculum, but he loved his family!
He was preceded in death by one daughter, LaTrice Darby. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Leathur Kelsey and sister-in-law, Adell Kelsey. To the Florida family we love you!

Mr. Willie Lee Robinson, Jr. departed this life on Sunday, May 24, 2015 after an extended illness at the University Hospital in Augusta, Georgia. Funeral services held on Sunday, May 31, 2015 at 2 p.m., Harrison Spring Baptist Church with Rev. Terrance Pullen officiating. Interment will be in the Harrison City Cemetery.
He was born March 15, 1940 in Washington County to the parentage of the late Mr. Willie Lee Robinson, Sr. and the late Mrs. Willie Mae White.
At an early age, he joined Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Wrightsville, Georgia and later in life attended M.C. Memorial Church in Wrightsville, Georgia. Mr. Robinson attended the public schools of Johnson County. Mr. Robinson was united in holy matrimony to the late Lucille Braddy on April 8, 1961.
Mr. Robinson began working at the early age of 15 for W.F. Jackson in the mines as a heavy equipment worker. He later began working for C.T. Harris for 15 years and went back to work for W.F. Jackson for a total of 30 years. He had to leave work due to his declining health. Mr. Robinson served his community as a volunteer firefighter and was also a member of Elisha Masonic Lodge #194 in Harrison, Georgia. Mr. Robinson was preceded in death by three siblings: Arlene Robinson, Freddie Robinson, and Allene Williams.
Mr. Robinson leaves to cherish his memories four daughters, Agnes Stephens of Harrison, GA, Sheryl Mack (Herbert) of Tennille, GA, Angela (Tony) Andrews of Tennille, GA, and Arnita Williamson of Cordele, GA; one son, Darcey (Ruby) Robinson of Harrison, GA; five brothers, Frank (Edith) Robinson, Johnny B. Mrs. Margie Carswell Tanner ascended to her heavenly home on July 3, 2015 from Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July11, 2015 at 1 p.m. at the Union Hill Baptist Church in Tennille, Georgia with interment in the Union Hill Baptist Church cemetery.
Mrs. Tanner was born on September 11, 1948 to the late Mr. Arthur Carswell and Mrs. Mary M. Hagan Carswell in Washington County. She was educated in Washington County Public Schools, graduating from T.J. Elder High School in 1968. Margie further her education and became a Licensed Practice Nurse. She was a member of the Union Hill Baptist Church.
Margie worked as a LPN for several years in Washigton and surrounding counties until she retired from the Washington County Regional Medical Center. She also worked at VA Hospital in Dublin, Dublin Aire Nursing Home, Oconee Rehabilitation and Wrightsville Manor in Wrightsville, Georgia. She worked part-time for many years at L.M. Pierce Funeral Home. At the time of her death, she was employed by Tom and Angela Helton.
One sister and two brothers preceded her in death: Susie Gordy, Melvin Carswell and Arthur Carswell, Jr. She was also preceded in death by a niece Linda Thomas.
Her cheerfulness blessed our lives in many ways. She encouraged all to have faith, hope and confidence in God. Her legacy will forever be remembered and exemplified by her loving and devoted family. Mrs. Julia Pierce Wright was born October 15, 1917 to the late Edmond and Ollie Samuels Pierce in Oconee, GA. Known to her family as “MaJulia”, Mrs. Wright departed this life on Sunday, July 5, 2015 at Serenity Hospice of Dublin, GA. Mrs. Wright was ninety-seven years old.
Funeral services for Mrs. Wright were held on Friday, July 10, 2015 at Buckeye Baptist Church in East Dublin, Georgia at 12 Noon with Rev. David Flowers officiating. Interment will be in the Mt. Pleasant A.M.E. Church cemetery in Johnson County.
On January 3, 1936, Julia was joined in holy matrimony to the late Leroy Wright, her devoted husband of sixty-eight years. To this union, they were blessed with nine children. Mrs. Wright was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother to her children and grandchildren, homemaker, nanny, and faithful friend to all others that came into her life. To those that knew her, she spent the majority of her time in the kitchen cooking and sitting at the table reminiscing about the past. At an early age, Julia attended Samuel Grove Baptist Church of Sandersville, GA, and later joined Mt. Pleasant A.M.E Church of Wrightsville, GA where she was a faithful member until a decline in health.
She was preceded in death by her sons Bennie Wright and Roy Lee Wright; daughter Lucille Hicks; brothers; Bennie (Alberta) Pierce; David(Lillie Ruth) Pierce; D.K.(Corean) Pierce; Sammy Pierce; Theodore(Mary) Pierce and Robert Pierce; sisters Dora(William) Carter; Lonnie Mae(Prince) Walker; Eula Mae(Rudolph) Smith; Addie(Doc) Merrell, Elisa Pierce and Annie Mae(Sam) Dennis; sister-in-laws Geneva(Roger) Dixon, Detta Pierce, Hattie Wright; brother-in-laws Charles Wright and Sam(Rose Eva) Wright; granddaughters Lisa Michelle Wright and Sheila Hicks; grandson Phillip Pullen; daughter-in-laws Faye Wright and Ilver V. On Wednesday, July 8, 2015, at his residence, within his own infinite wisdom, Jesus saw fit to remove Mr. Joel “Joe” Merrell from the walks of this life. Funeral services were held on Monday, July 13, 2015 at Greater New Hope Baptist at 2 p.m. with Rev. Jimmy Ellis Cordy, Sr. officiating. Interment was in the Sandersville City Cemetery.
He, on October 1, 1978, was born to the parentage of Mr. Joe “Bubba’ McKnight and Ms. Annette Merrell. Affectionally known as “Joe” he was a 1997 graduate of Washington County High School in Sandersville, Georgia. He was owner and operator of Merrell’s Mobile Washing based in Wrightsville, Georgia. He was all about family and whenever called upon he was always there. Joel was 36 years old.

Leonia was born on November 27, 1938 to the late Mr. & Mrs. Lee Dixon in Sandersville, Georgia. After moving to Liberty County she became a member of Community Missionary Baptist Church where she served as a member of the Usher Board.
Leonia had a great love of flowers and cooking. For 49 years she was devoted and dedicated wife and homemaker. Isadore Mack, Jr. affectionally known by his siblings as “brother” and to his family and friends as “Mack” was born August 9, 1933 in Washington County to parentage of the late Isadore Mack, Sr. and Sally Mack.
Mack attended the public school of Washington County. He was employed by Riner Radiator & Battery Company for over 50 years where he retired in 2000. Mack was a dedicated employee and served the community as a great mechanic. Mack was also known in the community to be a fun-loving and life of the party person. He loved being in the company of family and friends.
Mack was preceded in death by his parents, Isadore Mack, Sr. and Sally Mack; Don Jordan (son), Sarita Elaine Mack (daughter), Jerome Mack (grandson), Willie Floyd Mack (brother), and Dora Mack Jackson (sister).
On July 8, 1994, Mack married his devoted and loving wife, Emma Jean Wilcher-Mack. They spent many years of companionship prior to holy matrimony.

Evangelist Irene Leona Johnson entered eternal rest on Friday, August 14, 2015 at Select Specialty Hospital in Augusta, Georgia. Funeral services held on Monday, August 17, 2015 at Smith Grove Baptist Church with interment in the Sandersville City Cemetery. Bishop Richard Peoples officiated.
Evangelist Irene Leona Johnson was born in Philadelphia, PA on August 22, 1945. She was the youngest of five children of the late Clayton and Ada Burgess. Mother Johnson was educated in the Philadelphia Public School System. She attended Simon Gratz High School but received her GED in Jacksonville, Fla through the Florida Cooperative Extension Program. She earned her Associates degree in Criminal Justice in 1987 from Philadelphia Community of Philadelphia.
Mother Johnson spent her youth attending Jones Tabernacle AME Church. When she was 12 years old, she joined the Ebenezer COGIC Church. After moving to Jacksonville, FLA, she attended Faith Temple COGIC where she diligently worked with the youth choir and outreach ministries. Returning to Philadelphia, she put her hands to work at Solid Rock COGIC. Then she transitions to Overcoming Church of Deliverance pastored by Bishop William Kinning where she was ordained on June 29, 1980.
In 1998, Mother Johnson moved to Sandersville, GA where she planted the seeds of gospel at the young people at First Love Ministries pastored by Bobby Jackson. Her heart’s desire was to win all souls to Christ but she was passionate about the youth in Sandersville. She actively participated in the van ministry gathering all who wanted to know more about Jesus. The youth outreach ministry grew and evolved to the Children of Love and Hope pastored by Dolton Glenn. To get young people more involved in church, she would help take the church’s children on retreats. Mother Johnson often encouraged the people to seek out higher education and taught them the value of prayer and determination.
Mother Johnson was always looking for ways to be a blessing and being used by God gave her great joy. At the Children of Love and Hope Ministries she put her wisdom to work in the women’s ministry, her kindness into feeding the community, her fellowship in home visits and her love into every soul that she encountered. Having Pastor D. Glenn as a shepherd fortified her resolve to do all for Christ.
Mother Johnson met her former husband, David Johnson, Sr. at a church that she was visiting. Their wedding took place in Maryland on July 6, 1963. The union produced three children, Evelyn, David Jr. and Crystal the adorable. Mother Johnson had a daughter from a previous relationship, Beloved La-Barbara Burgess, who preceded her in death.
Mother Johnson leaves to celebrate her extraordinary life, her daughter and son-in-law: Lanod and Evelyn Broadnax; her son and daughter-in-law, David Johnson Jr and Shelly Bland-Johnson; and her youngest child, Crystal. Demetric Coleman was born on September 14, 1974 in Florida to the parentage of Mrs. Barbara Merrell and Mr. Carl Pratt, Sr. Demetric accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized and joined Smith Grove Baptist Church where he was a faithful and devoted member.
Demetric received his early education at McCarty Grammar School in Fort Pierce, Florida and completed high school at Washington County High School graduating in 1993. Demetric relocated to Redwood, California in 1998 at which time he united with Bethany Community COGIC.

Mr. Ronald Quinton Heggs transitioned to eternal rest on Wednesday, October 21, 2015 at his residence. Memorial service will be held on Monday, October 26, 2015 at Clara-Minnie Memorial Chapel of the L.M. Pierce Funeral Home.
Mr. Ronald Quinton Heggs was born November 29, 1956 to the parentage of the late Mr. Edward Heggs, Jr. and the late Inez Vivian Heggs.
Ronald grew up in Brooklyn, New York and attended public school. Ronald possessed many trades. He worked as a security guard, truck driver and cab driver in New York.
In 1995, Ronald moved to Sandersville, Georgia to be closer to his family. Here he met and married his wife, Mrs. Elaine Swint Heggs.
He was predeceased by his brothers, Mr. Kenneth Heggs, Mr. Charles Heggs, Sr., Mr. Lloyd Heggs, Sr. and one sister Ms. Diane Heggs.
In November 2014, Ronald’s health started to decline.

Mrs. Arebetha Carswell ascended to her heavenly home on May 14, 2015 from Emory University Hospital Midtown in Atlanta, Georgia. Funeral services held on Thursday, May 21, 2015 at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church in Deepstep, Georgia with Rev. Bobby Warren officiating. Interment in the Rest Haven Cemetery.
She thoroughly enriched the lives of her parents as she was the firstborn to Lillie Mae Danzy and Ralph Perry on February 10, 1924.
Arebetha experienced and enhanced life in Deepstep, Georgia where she was educated at the California Junior High School in Washington County, Georgia. She was an early and eternal member of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church evolving as Mother of The Church. She labored with love at the defunct T.J. Elder Elementary School until retirement in 1987.
She enjoyed a happy marriage of sixty-six years with her devoted husband, Deacon Eddie Lee Carswell, Sr., who preceded her in transitioning. This union amassed eleven children: Beverly Brown (Willie), Ronald Carswell (Walter Jean), Gwendolyn Murray (Frederick), Eddie L. Carswell, Jr. (Jennifer), Brenda Bell (Donald), Kenneth Carswell (Gwendolyn), Sandra Conyers (Lester), Donny A. Carswell (Lazette), Jeffrey Carswell (preceded her in transitioning), Gail Wellman (Hawley), and Karen Carswell.
This union extended love beyond their eleven children to include a surviving endearing sister, Jacqueline Roberson, two special adopted daughters, Ethelean Dixon and Claudia Moore and an honorary brother-in-law, Deacon William Jackson.
Her legacy of all-encompassing love extends five generations with forty grandchildren, fifty-seven greatgrandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Arebetha’s passions for uplifting, encouraging, and epitomizing unconditional love are the hallmarks demonstrated wholeheartedly to family, friends, neighbors, and anyone who she encountered. She is entrusting that her legacy will continue to exhibit godly love to one another throughout all generations.
NOTE: Family visitation/wake is Wednesday, May 20, 2015 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church. The body will lie in state on Thursday from 12 noon until hour of service at the church. There is no viewing after the eulogy.

Mrs. Verdis Martin Jones was born on April 8, 1926 in Washington County, Georgia to the late proud parents Mr. Archie Martin and Adell Bloodsaw Martin. She was preceded in death by son: Baby Jones; brothers: Jimmie Lee Martin, Archie Lee Martin, Julius Martin, Charles Andrews and sister: Sarah Cannida.
She was educated at T.J. Elder High School of Sandersville, Georgia. Verdis joined Green Grove Baptist Church as a young girl, where she faithfully served God. On September 5, 1959, she was united in holy matrimony to the love of her life and best friend, Mr. Thomas J. Jones. The union brought forth two sons.

Mr. Reeves is a 2007 graduate of Washington County High School. At an early age he joined the First Community Baptist Church. He was employed by Global Contract Group.

Minister Sheryl Foster Calhoun went home to be with her Heavenly Father January 1, 2015 at the Spalding Regional Medical Center in Griffin, Georgia. Minister Calhoun was born on January 28, 1965 to the parentage of the late Mr. McColdy Foster and Mrs. Mary A. Foster.
At an early age she joined the St. Galilee Church of God in Christ in Sandersville, Georgia and later moved to Griffin, Georgia where she joined the Church at Griffin under the leadership of Pastor H. Bernard Miller where she served faithfully. After several years she made the transition to Abundant Mercy Christian Center in McDonough, Georgia.
Sheryl attended the Washington County Public Schools in Sandersville, Georgia. She graduated from Washington County High School in 1983. Upon graduating she attended Georgia Southwestern College in Americus, Georgia for two years studying in the Medical Field. She studied Christian Counseling at Restoration Theological Seminary, receiving her Bachelor's Degree while pursuing her Masters.
Sheryl was founder and CEO of Imagine Me Ministries of Griffin, Georgia as well as one of the founding Members of Abundant Mercy Christian Church in McDonough, Georgia. She was an Associate Minister, a Director of Christian Education, Diretor of Missions and one of the Christian Counselors. She was a Trustee and Supervisor over the Ushers. She was a board Member of Living for His Purpose Women's Ministry and a former Member of the National Coalition of Women in Ministry.
Minister Calhoun was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Harvey Calhoun. She leaves to cherish her precious memories, a son Mr. Marshio Jamiele Dent of Griffin, Georgia; two grandchildren, Jirah S. Dent and Madison Dent of Griffin, Georgia; a loving and devoted mother, Mrs. Mary A. Foster of Sandersville, Georgia; one sister, Ms. Cynthia Hood of Sandersville, Georgia; two brothers, Mr. Kelvin DeWayne Foster of Augusta, Georgia and Mr. Terrence (CreCynthia) Foster of Sandersville, Georgia; three uncles, Mr. Jimmy Swint, Mr. Willie (Christine) Swint both of Sandersville, Georgia and Rev. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2015, 12 Noon at St. Galilee Church of God in Christ in Sandersville, Georgia with interment in the Rest Haven Cemetery, Sandersville, Georgia. The family Repast will be immediately after interment at the Family Retreat Center in Tennille, Georgia.
Minister Calhoun will lie in state at the church from 10 a.m. until the hour of service. There will be no viewing after eulogy.
